“You can’t start the next chapter of your life if you keep re-reading the last one.”

September 2020 marks the one year anniversary since my first ESG began. And what a year it has been! So… how am I doing? Well, I haven’t met my goal weight yet, but honestly… I wonder where I’d be with my weight had I entered 2020 without ESG. That’s a really scary thought.
Accepting A “New Normal”
Ever since COVID-19 hijacked my life, I have been “waiting” to get back to “normal”, and I have been in denial as to how far off “normal” may actually be, and that things may possibly never return to “normal”. It has been beyond stressful (for everyone, I’m sure). However, at this point I think I have reached the “acceptance” phase. It’s now time to move on with life and create a new “normal”.
If there’s anything I’ve learned, its that I have to be proactive in making things happen. Things don’t just happen because I want them to. That includes making a “new normal” for myself. It’s time to address the new COVID-19 obstacles surrounding exercise, diet and stress reduction.
Exercise
The way I always enjoyed exercise pre-covid was going to the gym. It was a good stress reliever, and a way to get out of the house and away from distraction (which is 99% my children). However, masks are required while inside the gym, and I simply cannot workout with a mask. My asthma barely lets me workout without a mask. So I’m trying out some new indoor things. I’ll be honest, I don’t “love” any of the indoor stuff I’ve tried… yet… My plan is to keep trying different things until I find something I enjoy. The next thing I’m set up to try is kettle-bell. Who knows, maybe I will love it. If I don’t seem to enjoy that, I might invest in a stationary bicycle. I just have to keep trying new things and hopefully something sticks.
Diet
I’ve been so bad with this over the last few months. It’s time for a complete reboot to destroy the old habits that have slowly crept in during this time. I’m going back to the basics and back to logging everything so I can get back on track. I have cleaned out my fridge, restocked my protein and veggies, and need to keep the sugary crap out of the house from now on (and make my family keep it out as well).
Stress
I think my stress level will reduce on its own when I get very regular with exercise. I have been seeing an acupuncturist to get needling, guasha and cupping on the places in my neck and back that I like to keep all my tension. I plan to keep that up.
In a nutshell this is my plan and mindset at this point. I hope my next post will contain how I have been successful in making a new routine and new normal for myself. I also really hope 2021 is a much better year than 2020!
